Job Overview:
CRU International is seeking a highly motivated Senior Analyst to join our Base Metals Asset Services team in Santiago. You will be part of an international team providing industry-leading operational and emissions data and analysis covering the world’s mines, smelters & refineries across the copper, gold, lead, lithium, nickel and zinc commodities. In this role, you will take ownership of our regional analysis coverage, whilst representing our work to our clients.
This role will involve:
Collecting, analysing and forecasting production, costs and emissions data for base metals (copper, nickel, lead, zinc) mines, with a central focus on copper.
Maintaining and growing the capabilities of CRU’s base metals costs & emissions services (especially copper).
Engaging the mining sector on the current and future impact of mineral economics and emissions themes to promote CRU’s analysis and shape the industry’s thinking about its future.
Creating in-depth analysis on the global competitiveness of copper mines; the current and future cost structure of the base metals industry; and the impact of and opportunities from industry decarbonisation.
To be successful in the role, you must be comfortable structuring and executing primary research activities, be highly numerate and have a passion for the mining and metals industry. You will likely already be working within or supporting the mining industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Analysis and Modelling:
Lead regional research on costs and emissions for CRU’s Cost and Emissions Analysis Tools.
Identify, analyse, and evaluate trends impacting asset costs and carbon emissions.
Perform cross-commodity analysis to provide additional insights on mining metals trends to customers.
Develop and maintain datasets, methodologies, and intellectual property for CRU’s base metals services.
Primary Research:
Conduct primary and secondary research, building relationships with market and industry contacts.
Continuously enhance understanding of Base Metals mining techniques and technologies, updating CRU's data accordingly.
Report Writing and Presentations:
Conduct primary and secondary research, developing thought leadership narratives supported by data and insights.
Attend industry conferences to network and represent CRU.
Continuously develop a deep understanding of mining techniques and technologies
Customer Engagement:
Lead customer meetings, product demos, and presentations to support commercial activities.
Identify and develop sales/marketing tactics partnering with commercial teams.
Foster relationships with clients to support contract renewals and knowledge sharing.
Training and Collaboration:
Collaborate with the global Assets team and other CRU analysts.
Train and mentor junior analysts within the team.
**Essential Criteria**
- Qualifications:
A top degree (first or 2:1) from a leading university
Master’s degree with merit or above is advantageous.
Knowledge & Experience
Experience working within the mining industry, with operations and analysis experience seen as highly advantageous.
Ability to quickly grasp the key technical and financial aspects is essential
Strong quantitative background and a creative thinker with ability to construct, deliver and defend a compelling narrative.

Commercial awareness: Understand commercial drivers and maximize value for clients.
Team working: Balance personal initiative with collaborative operations.
Communication skills: Fluent in English (written and spoken).
Technical Skills:
Highly numerate with proficiency in handling large data sets as well as interpreting, manipulating and managing data.
Excellent database and Excel spreadsheet skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
