Data Center Facility Manager, DCC Communities - DCEO, InfraOps

We are seeking a Data Center Manager to serve as a technical resource and leader within Amazon data centers. The position will help ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of data center operations. The Data Center Manager will assist in maintaining a high reliability and performance while keeping operating costs in facilities at a minimum. This equipment supports mission-critical servers and must maintain better than 99.999% uptime.

Key job responsibilities

The Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) Facility Manager will be responsible for data center engineering operations within an Amazon Data Center including risk management and mitigation, corrective and preventative maintenance of critical infrastructure, vendor management, and metric reporting.

Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for the on-site management of shift technicians, senior shift technicians, sub-contractors, and vendors, ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with established practices and procedures.
  2. Has primary responsibility for 2-5 Data centers, may require local and international travels.
  3. Participates in strategic planning projects.
  4. May oversee the build-out of Facility-specific infrastructure in existing locations.
  5. Participates in recruiting efforts.
  6. Is active in the training and/or development of others.
  7. Uses business knowledge to set priorities and develop project plans.
  8. Has a deep understanding of best practices in their area of expertise and ensures their application.
  9. Operate and manage both routine and emergency services on a variety of critical systems such as: switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, etc.
  10. May assist in the design and build-out of new facilities.
  11. May assist in projects to increase current facility efficiency.
  12. Responsible for asset and inventory management.
  13. Proven ability in driving and managing metrics/KPIs with a high degree of organization and detail orientation.
  14. Incident and Vendor management experience with Security and Health & Safety awareness.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school or equivalent diploma.
  2. 5+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or other critical environment.
  3. 6+ years of experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other basic administrative tools.
  4. 3+ years of experience managing diverse teams.
  5. 6+ years of experience with advanced understanding of the electrical or mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations such as: feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units.
  6. 5+ years of experience managing diverse teams and other managers.
  7. 4+ years of Data Center Engineering Experience.
  8. 4+ years of experience with root cause analysis and troubleshooting/problem solving.
  9. 3+ years of experience reading and understanding schematics and building drawings.
  10. 3+ years of demonstrating the ability to share knowledge and train peers.
  11. Associates or Bachelor's Degree.
  12. Ability to prioritize in a complex, fast-paced environment.
  13. Strong verbal and written communication skills, technical writing or business justifications (white paper experience).
  14. Experience developing operational metrics to drive efficiencies.
  15. Experience in contributing to the definition and implementation of automation opportunities within a deployment/build environment.
  16. Experience with lean methodologies and Six-Sigma or similar qualification.
