The Role We’re hiring a hands-on senior DevOps engineer to take full ownership of our infrastructure, security posture, and deployment pipelines. This is not a “keep the lights on” role. We need someone who: Fixes what’s broken Simplifies what’s overcomplicated Hardens security and builds systems we can trust You’ll work closely with engineering leadership and application developers, and you’ll be expected to operate independently with a high bar for reliability. What You’ll Own AWS infrastructure (primary cloud environment) CI/CD pipelines and deployment reliability Infrastructure-as-code and environment consistency Monitoring, alerting, and incident response Cost optimization and cloud spend visibility Security hardening, vulnerability remediation, and access controls DevOps support for ongoing compliance and documentation Core Responsibilities Infrastructure & Cloud Own and manage AWS environments end-to-end Implement and maintain infrastructure-as-code (Terraform preferred) Ensure high availability, scalability, and safe production changes Eliminate fragile infra and reduce single points of failure CI/CD & Reliability Fix and stabilize broken or unreliable pipelines Improve deployment speed, safety, and rollback capability Reduce incidents caused by deploys or infra changes Partner with developers to unblock releases Security & Compliance Proactively identify and remediate vulnerabilities Harden cloud infrastructure and access controls Support compliance audit requirements (technical controls + documentation) Improve secrets management and credential hygiene Treat security issues as urgent, not “eventually” Monitoring & Observability Design a cost-conscious monitoring and alerting strategy Replace “we didn’t notice until it broke” with actionable alerts Avoid expensive, over-engineered tooling when simpler solutions work Cost Optimization Identify waste and inefficiencies in AWS spend Implement cost controls, visibility, and best practices Balance performance with cost awareness What We’re Looking For Required Experience 5+ years of hands-on DevOps / infrastructure experience Deep experience with AWS Strong experience with Terraform or similar IaC tools CI/CD experience (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar) Experience running production systems with real traffic Strong understanding of cloud security best practices Comfortable being the sole DevOps owner Strongly Preferred Experience with ECS or EKS Multi-account AWS setups SOC 2 / ISO / PCI exposure Production migrations (shared hosting → cloud) Experience cleaning up inherited, messy infrastructure You must overlap meaningfully with US working hours You communicate clearly and proactively You take ownership - problems don’t linger You prefer simple, robust solutions over clever ones You are comfortable saying “this is risky” and backing it up This Role Is Not a Fit If: You are part of an agency or want to work part-time You need constant direction or ticket-by-ticket management You avoid security responsibility You prefer theoretical architecture over practical reliability #J-18808-Ljbffr
