Technical Manager **who will be accountable to deliver best practice technical leadership and deliver superior value.

This is achieved through establishing and continuously improving technical systems, standards, processes, tools, and technologies, focused on managing risk, realizing improvement opportunities, and maximizing operational performance and, ultimately value of the business.

The Technical Manager is a key role in influencing our JV partner to deliver superior value at the Escondida operation.

Reporting to the General Manager, Asset Technical and working in a challenging and exciting environment within the Copper Technical team, you will:

  • Provide leadership and management of technical functions,
  • Managerlevel accountabilities within Copper Technical in terms of approvals, expenditures and budgets,
  • Identify, establish, and drive consistent and highly visible KPIs.
  • Ensure robust review of capital projects.
  • Identify highvalue opportunities at the business.
  • Identify and drive leading practice transfer.
  • Establish collaboration engagements with owners' technical teams.
  • Provide expert technical and operational advice and direction in the management of key strategic and technical risks and opportunities,
  • Coordinate appropriate involvement and contribution with the business unit of technical discipline expertise from within copper and the broader Rio Tinto.

What you'll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical discipline. Postgraduate qualifications in economics, finance, or business would be well regarded.
  • Minimum of 15 years' experience in mining operations and technical roles.
  • English and Spanish language skills are required for this role.
  • Indepth understanding of engineering and a track record of generating practical and innovative solutions to multifaceted technical and/or operational problems.
  • Experience in corporate improvement /business improvement programs and processes.
  • Demonstrated capacity in setting strategy and operation at the strategic level.
  • Understanding of mining business value drivers and operating plan evaluation.
  • A track record of successfully managing challenging operations and technical project work.
  • Broad experience covering:
  • Planning processes, systems, and tools across all time horizons.
  • Technical studies, concept to feasibility level.
  • Thorough understanding and practical experience of mine economics and evaluation techniques.
  • Good understanding of the mine value chain and interactions, including tradeoff decisions and value creation
  • Promoting and driving the understanding of the interdependent relationships between geology, mining, and processing in terms of overall process and financial efficiency
