About the Role

  • BHP's Joint Venture team, led by our Asset President Joint Ventures, oversees BHP's portfolio of nonoperated / noncontrolling joint venture positions. Our Joint Ventures team is responsible for the stewardship of BHP's investments in the Antamina, Resolution, and Samarco joint ventures. We are seeking an ambitious, motivated and globalminded individual with the operational and strategic acumen, stakeholder influencing abilities, and drive to support the management of BHP's interest in Antamina a Tier 1 copper Asset and top 5 global producer of copper based in Peru. This is an exciting opportunity to play an integral role in the delivery of BHP's joint ventures asset strategy.

Core Accountabilities- Project manage BHP's internal Joint Venture Lead Team for Antamina to drive the development and validation of our priority key focus areas for influencing our joint venture partners and Antamina management, i.e., those area critical for ensuring the Asset remains on-strategy and continues to generate value for BHP, including defining influencing targets, tracking influencing impact and performance within each of those key focus areas, and identifying potential risks of non-compliance/underperformance to trigger timely contingency actions.


  • Manage the SME input, support, and governance from BHP's Functional areas with respect to BHP's investment in Antamina (Finance, HSE, Corporate Affairs, Planning & Technical, Legal, Compliance, Risk, Audit, and others). The Functional SME support includes a mix of fully dedicated and part time SME support to the broader Joint Ventures Asset. You will be accountable for interacting with and managing the daytoday Functional support for BHP's Antamina investment.
  • Evaluate Antamina's business plan and operational performance, including conducting benchmarking/productivity reviews and facilitating the exchange of best practices to ensure optimal joint venture and business performance.
  • Coordinate prealignment and preparation sessions for Antamina Board and Committee meetings, including analysis of the main materials, developing commentary and recommendations with the relevant SMEs, and proposing key messages/influencing strategies in line with our key focus areas and influencing objectives. Also, coordinate the post Board and Committee outcomes and debriefs among the internal team, as well as feedbacks for Antamina management.
  • Lead critical BHP internal processes to align BHP and the joint venture management processes, including BHP's Risk Management Framework, Investment Review & Approval processes, Risk & Audit papers, and Capital Allocation cycle.

About You

  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience, in either operational (engineering/projects), strategic, or commercial dimensions
  • Knowledge of the minerals industry, understanding of geology, mining engineering, mineral processing, communities/environmental aspects, is a plus, as well as experience in an operating business
  • Experience with joint venture agreements, corporate governance frameworks, and Boards is a plus
  • An undergraduate degree with a business/finance focus or technical/engineering/operational background preferred
  • MBA or advanced degree is a plus
  • Global mindset, with a commitment to inclusion and diversity principles
  • English (mandatory, including strong written English skills), Spanish (highly desirable)
