The Role and Responsibilities of a DevOps Professional:
- The DevOps practice is the amalgamation of methodologies and cultural ideologies that unify software development (Dev) and IT operations (Ops), fostering collaboration, communication, and integration among teams. The key aim of DevOps is to efficiently deliver top-notch software products and services by optimizing and automating the software development cycle.
- Developing and managing cloud-based applications through the creation of terraform modules, debugging, and testing resource lifecycle to ensure they comply with functional and non-functional prerequisites.
- Interacting with cloud service providers like AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and notably SAP BTP to execute cloud-oriented solutions, including application deployment, database management, and server configurations.
- Collaborating closely with fellow developers, designers, and project managers to ensure the timely completion of projects meeting quality benchmarks.
- Identifying and resolving technical glitches encountered during the development and operational phases of cloud-native applications.
- Drafting and managing comprehensive in-line documentation.
- Adhering to best practices for security and compliance during the development and deployment of cloud-based applications, incorporating encryption and access controls as per defined SAP standards.
- Adopting a continuous learning mindset, remaining humble, and offering assistance to colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Writing clean, sustainable, and effective code.
- Designing and implementing software solutions based on requirements and architectural blueprints.
- Collaborating with diverse teams to define, design, and roll out new features.
- Tackling, debugging, and upkeeping existing software systems.
- Ensuring software quality standards are met through reviews, testing, and documentation.
- Remaining updated on emerging technologies and industry trends.
- Automating tasks wherever possible.
- Developing and managing Terraform modules for cloud environment deployment.
- Monitoring application and infrastructure performance and logging events for analysis and issue resolution.
- Integrating security practices into the development and operational processes to ensure application and infrastructure security.
- Fostering a culture of cloud-centric collaboration, learning, and continual enhancement across the organization.
Be a champion of SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP); having a profound understanding of cloud service providers like AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and their respective comparisons. Comprehend and advocate common cloud architectures and frameworks such as microservices architecture, event-driven architecture, event-sourcing, and strangler pattern, while articulating anti-patterns like component and distributed monolith patterns.
Tools and Processes:
As a DevOps engineer, reliance on processes and tooling is paramount for daily support and development. It is necessary to be well-versed in various tools and processes, including:
- Terraform
- Azure cloud services like VPC, load balancer, Cosmos, Flexible Postgres, virtual servers, and functions deployment and management.
- Istio
- Kubernetes (K8S)
- Confluent Platform, particularly Confluent Kafka
- Experience with running and deploying Sprint applications in productions settings
- CI/CD utilizing Azure Pipeline
- JFrog Artifactory for container registry and deployment
- Cloud Foundry (a plus)
- Experience with AWS and GCP (a plus)
Qualifications:
- SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP)
- Over 5 years of expertise in a DevOps position.
- Proficiency in Terraform and Azure cloud services.
- English proficiency at B2 / C1 level.
