Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lab Technician Assistant to join our team in Valparaiso. As a key member of our scientific support staff, you will be responsible for maintaining the general upkeep of laboratory facilities and supporting science faculty in setting up and taking down labs.

Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain an orderly and safe laboratory environment by cleaning glassware and equipment, and performing periodic inventory of supplies and equipment.
  2. Prepare equipment, mix chemicals, and perform other tasks necessary for lab setup as requested by faculty.
  3. Assist faculty in setting up labs, performing experiments, and cleaning up afterwards.
  4. Work with supervisors and faculty to obtain OSHA and other applicable regulations and apply them to proper storage and labeling of chemicals and materials, disposal of waste materials, and laboratory safety procedures.
  5. Perform clerical work associated with laboratory facilities and follow IVY Tech Community College policies regarding reporting and management of laboratory accidents.
  6. Complete required paperwork, such as timesheets, in a timely manner.

  • Experience working in a science laboratory setting is required.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of students and employees is essential.
  • Fully supports the College's mission and strategic plan initiatives.

Location and Work Schedule:

This is a part-time position based on class schedule, up to 28 hours per week, located in Valparaiso.
